Technology Control Diagnostic
Clarity before remediation, supplier change or governance action.
When technology ownership, access, suppliers and responsibilities are unclear, it is difficult for executives to know what should be fixed first, what can wait and where accountability actually sits.
The Technology Control Diagnostic provides an independent executive view of the current technology control position before the business commits to larger remediation, supplier change, investment or ongoing technology leadership.
The challenge
When the business needs clarity before action
Technology concerns often accumulate gradually across systems, suppliers, access, support arrangements and informal ownership.
The executive problem is not simply that issues exist. It is that the business may not have a reliable view of what is controlled, what remains uncertain, what carries material consequence and what decision should happen next.
The diagnostic is designed to establish that decision basis without automatically turning every finding into an implementation project.
Trigger situations
- Technology ownership or administrative access is unclear.
- The business relies on multiple suppliers but accountability is fragmented.
- Executives need a clearer current-state view before remediation or investment.
- A supplier change, leadership transition, acquisition, funding event, insurance review or governance concern has exposed uncertainty.
- The organisation is considering ongoing senior technology oversight but needs a clearer baseline first.
Designed for
Executives who need a reliable decision basis
Suited to owner-led, executive-led and growing organisations where technology has become commercially important but ownership, control, supplier responsibility or decision visibility is incomplete. It requires an engaged executive sponsor and access to relevant people and available evidence.
The diagnostic
A clearer view of control, risk and what should happen next
Executive Technology Control Brief
A concise executive view of the current technology control position, material concerns and decision context.
Technology Ownership and Dependency Register
Visibility of critical technology ownership, key dependencies, suppliers and areas where responsibility remains unclear.
Prioritised Risk and Decision Register
A focused view of material risks, unresolved decisions and issues requiring executive attention.
90-Day Executive Action Plan
A prioritised plan showing what should be addressed, governed, deferred, referred or scoped separately.
The engagement concludes with an executive briefing to discuss findings, decisions and the recommended next step.
How it works
Focused evidence review. Executive-level findings.
The diagnostic uses targeted interviews and available evidence to establish a practical view of ownership, access, suppliers, dependencies, support arrangements, resilience and governance.
It is deliberately bounded. Missing evidence, inaccessible records or supplier non-response are recorded as findings or dependencies rather than expanded into open-ended investigation.
Following qualification, the engagement is proposed as a defined fixed-scope piece of work with agreed boundaries, inputs and outputs.
Clear boundaries
Decision clarity, not remediation or technical assurance
The Technology Control Diagnostic is diagnostic and decision-oriented. It does not include the following, which remain the responsibility of specialist providers or separately scoped engagements.
- Remediation or configuration changes
- Access recovery
- Supplier instruction or dispute management
- Managed IT support
- Cyber incident response
- Penetration testing or security testing
- Legal or privacy advice
- Certification
- Broad implementation or migration work
Where a separate specialist or implementation need is identified, that requirement is separated rather than absorbed into the diagnostic.

The outcome
Know what matters before committing to what comes next.
The objective is to give executives a clearer view of the current technology control position, the issues requiring attention and the decisions needed to move forward with confidence.
The diagnostic may lead to stabilisation, ongoing oversight, specialist referral, separately scoped implementation or a decision that no immediate further engagement is required.
